Welcome to Landgate House
A beautiful, wonky, 5-bedroomed townhouse filled with auction finds, artful charm and high-end touches.
This 700-year old, Grade II listed home has been a landmark of Rye for centuries. ‘But isn’t every house in Rye really old?’ Well, yes. Many are. But Landgate House is something else. Situated at the footsteps of the Landgate Arch, gateway to the citadel of Rye, you’ll find the sprawling glory of Landgate House.
5 bedrooms. 3 bathrooms. Landgate House is home to wonky doors. A rather mad layout. Large 1st floor living room. Unrivalled views of the Landgate. Big comfy beds with 'the softest sheets ever’ (not our words) and lots and lots of art. The ground floor sees the most action; recently renovated and fully dedicated to cooking and eating, the central dining room leads to a darling kitchen which leads to a large private garden, a rarity in Rye.
If the walls could talk, you’d hear about that time Landgate House was a drapers, or an antique shop and in the centuries before, a pub. Something the corner part of the property has become once more (you’ll probably hear the pub a bit at the weekends, but not much).
The house is generous in size, the three larger bedrooms sit in different parts of the house, all with their own bathroom. Put simply: it’s the perfect place to stay if you enjoy going away with other people, but you also enjoy your own privacy. The top floor is especially laid out for families. Two bedrooms connect through a Jack and Jill ensuite shower room, with one room laid out with things including a cot, a single bed, toys, books, play tent, that kind of thing.
There’s so much more to say, and if you would like us to say it, please contact us.
